George W. Bush for Commissioner

With all due respect to the President of the United States, I have a suggestion for his post-Presidential life.  He should be the Commissioner of Major League Baseball!  After all, even with President Bush’s low approval rating among Americans right now, he has to be more qualified than the person currently occupying that post.

The steroid scandals that have rocked Major League Baseball, the ill-advised decisions that sent two teams half-way around the globe to begin the Major League season before Spring Training was over, and the obvious and well deserved lack of trust among the fans for the current Commissioner are all valid reasons for a change.  With the political choices we have in the news right now to succeed President Bush calling for change, I would submit that Major League Baseball needs change.  A complete overhaul would be nice.

Think about it.  The steroid issue that is rocking MLB was swept under the rug for years as a non-issue by the current commmissioner.  Unfortunately, Congress over-stepped their bounds and got involved.  Sad to say, that’s what it took for the current commissioner to realize something needed to be done.  The office of Commissioner did too little too late.  It became a joke, a farce, and an embarrassment to all of baseball to hear him stumble over what should have been taken care of in-house years ago.

What about Opening Day wreaks this season?  How about no one knowing how to address it?  Sunday, March 30 is being referred to as “Opening Day on US Soil” rather than simply Opening Day.  Monday should be declared a National holiday and schools everywhere should be closed.  Opening Day is a national treasure.  There is so much tradition and nostalgia that IS baseball . . . and to have it open anywhere but Cincinnati in an afternoon game is a tragedy.  Well, OK, this year’s opening of Nationals Park I suppose could be one exception.  But to open a Major League Baseball season half way around the world where no one in the right mind or sleep schedule could see it, and to do it before Spring Training is over?  Come on!!!  It is SO lame to think about playing two ’regular season’ games overseas, then coming home to finish your Spring Training Schedule.  Just for the almighty dollar.  It is utterly ridiculous!  The commissioner of baseball should be trying to PROTECT the tradition and integrity of the game.  The current commissioner is doing exactly the opposite!  Impeach him!

I don’t trust the current commissioner as far as I could throw him, and that isn’t far at all.  At least with Mr. Bush, we would know where we stand.  Like him or not politically, you know where he’s coming from.  Mr. Bush has a baseball mind and heart.  Having owned / served the Rangers, he knows baseball.  He showed as much knowledge of the game during his inning and a half stint on ESPN on Opening Night in D.C. as the commentators did there.  I say he’s make a great MLB Commissioner.  Who’s with me?  Let’s start a grass roots campaign.  George W. Bush for MLB Commissioner.  Impeach ole whatz his name!
